Teaching Philosophy and Approach

As an educator, my goal is to inspire students to think critically, approach challenges creatively, and apply their knowledge to real-world situations. Whether teaching in person or online, I believe education is about more than mastering concepts—it’s about equipping students with the tools they need to thrive in an ever-changing world.

At the University of North Carolina at Pembroke, I’ve had the privilege of teaching a variety of courses, including Marketing Principles, Integrated Marketing Communications, AI Literacy in Business, and Business Law. Each course is designed to connect academic theory with practical, real-world applications, giving students the confidence and skills they need to excel in their careers.

Engaging, Hands-On Learning
I create an interactive and engaging learning environment that encourages students to think beyond the textbook. In my classes, students tackle projects that simulate real-world business scenarios, such as creating comprehensive marketing plans, developing integrated communication strategies, or analyzing legal issues in business. These experiences not only solidify key concepts but also build valuable problem-solving and critical-thinking skills.

AI and Innovation in the Classroom
As someone passionate about technology, I integrate AI tools into my teaching to show their transformative impact on business. In my AI literacy course, students learn how to apply AI across various business disciplines. Beyond this, I incorporate AI into all of my courses to help students stay competitive in the job market. From marketing strategy to legal analysis, I emphasize how technology can streamline processes and create innovative solutions.

Diverse Teaching Experience
I’ve taught both in-person and online courses, which has allowed me to develop strategies to meet the needs of different learning environments. In face-to-face classes, I emphasize interactive discussions and group collaboration. In online settings, I provide engaging materials like annotated slides, podcasts, and AI-driven tools to ensure students stay connected and motivated. My goal is to create a rich learning experience, no matter the format.

Supporting Student Growth
Teaching is about more than delivering lectures—it’s about mentoring. I’m dedicated to helping my students grow academically, professionally, and personally. Whether through career guidance, project feedback, or mentoring student groups like the marketing and AI club, I aim to create a supportive environment where students can thrive.

Real-World Focus
I bring a real-world perspective to my teaching, drawing on my experience as an AI marketing consultant, business professional, and Navy veteran. My background in managing budgets, navigating legal complexities, and leveraging technology helps students see how classroom concepts apply to real-life challenges. This practical approach prepares them not just for academic success but for meaningful careers.
